It’s been revealed that two unexpected sets of roadworks which began yesterday on major routes through Ruddington could last all week.
Firstly, VIA East Midlands has issued an update about the emergency work on Clifton Road by Cadent Gas which is requiring the use of four-way temporary traffic lights at the roundabout with Pasture Lane/North Road/Clifton Lane and has already been causing delays for drivers – especially at peak times.
It began after another gas leak was discovered in the carriageway – the second one along that stretch in just four months. The trace and repair work could continue until this Friday 29th July*, although it’s hoped it may be finished sooner.
NOW EXTENDED – UPDATE BELOW*
Meantime, bus passengers using Nottingham City Transport’s Navy 3 and CT4N Services 22 & 23 are also liable to be delayed.
Secondly, emergency gas work has also started this week on the A60 Loughborough Road, near to the Cherub’s Day Nursery, with two-way temporary traffic lights in use. It is adding to the existing congestion caused by scheduled work in this area.
We’re advised these roadworks could also continue through until this Friday – 29th July 2022 – causing an extra headache for motorists and passengers using Kinchbus 9 and NCT’s Green 10 along that route.
*UPDATE 28th JULY 2022
Whilst, thankfully, the emergency gas work on the A60 Loughborough Road has already been completed, Cadent now says it needs a little longer to fix the other leak on Clifton Road.
Consequently the 24-hour traffic lights at the roundabout of Clifton Road with Pasture Lane/North Road/Clifton Lane will continue through this weekend and could remain in place right until the end of Monday 1st August.
This has been causing unforeseen, long delays in the evenings because of the overnight closure of Clifton Lane for roadworks there between 8pm and 6am which means traffic has been diverting through Ruddington.
Chaotic scenes like the one below (top photo by Cat Bell) are now likely to continue – since this work on the ring road is not due to be completed until Saturday 13th August.
